My Animals

Our newest addition to the family, meet Bean!

We adopted her because someone abandoned her at our apartment complex.  We found her one night, covered in fleas and hungry.  We noticed she was declawed but she didn’t have a collar or any form of identification (as far as we knew).  She slept in our bathroom (away from the dogs) for a night, and we took her to the vet the next day.  Surprisingly, the vet found out she had a microchip.  Her previous owner claimed to have given her away to a “friend” whom she had no memory of…not his or her name, or address, except that this mystery person lived in our apartment complex.  Although all the evidence supports this girl abandoning her cat (which is a misdemeanor in GA), the police and animal control don’t have the means to pursue it further.  I’m just glad Bean has a safe place to live, with everything she could ever want!

Bean loves my homemade granola.  What a hippie cat!

Leela is my dog (a lab/pitt mix), and Cassie (Carolina dog/terrier mix) is Danny’s.  We are one big family though :)

Leela will be 2 years old in August, and I believe Cassie is at least a year older than her.  They are both very sweet, but Leela and Cassie are rivals.  To Cassie, toys are a serious matter.  When they aren’t vying for our attention or food, they spend most of their time collecting toys by stealing them from one another.

Leela loves any bed or couch.

Cassie helps me study for my Canine Cognition class :)

Marwan is my first cat.  Me and him go way back.  I adopted him in 2004 because he was found abandoned at a rental property.  I was extremely allergic to cats when I first adopted him, but I really wanted a cat so I just suffered for a few weeks.  Now my allergies to cats has diminished somewhat but I vacuum and clean like crazy to keep the dander and fur at bay.  It’s totally worth it to have cats in my life!  I feel so bad for people who are so allergic they break out in hives :(

Marwan is constantly purring and loves to be the center of attention.  He gets along with all the animals I have adopted or brought into my home, but will smack the dogs in their faces once in a while if they are having too much fun.  Otherwise, he is very chill!

Marwan and Leela: frenemies for life.

Misty and Erica are sisters.  I adopted them in 2008 from a friend of a friend.  I didn’t change their names from what their previous owners chose, hence the weird names.  Their family wasn’t able to take care of them anymore, and once I saw them in person, I couldn’t resist.  Misty is quite chunky but struggles to lose weight even with reduced calorie food and supervised feeding.  We are still working at it, little by little.  Erica isn’t as large but has a healthy appetite.

Misty is a big girl!

Here’s Erica!

Maurizio (Maury) is my blue tongue skink.  He enjoys organic turkey, crickets, blackberries, and mango.  This picture is from right after I brought him home.

You can tell he’s grown a bit since I adopted him!
